The SRC of the University of Cape Coast has been successful after it petitioned the academic board to ban quizzes that take place at dawn. The news has been greeted with great excitement from the students of the school.
Background
UCC has been noted for its immense academic demands, that includes writing quizzes at odd hours of the day. This had been persistently explained by lecturers as helping the students prepare for the future and subsequently the workplace in order to meet terrible work schedules and delivery dates.
This assertion hasn’t been entirely true as quizzes were written at dawn because of the inadequate number of lecture theatres and the fact that quizzes were written during lecture hours. Normally, lectures start at 6 am as a result, quizzes were scheduled before lectures so they do not clash. This means quizzes were written before 6 am, it could be as early as 4 am and each student was supposed to be there on time regardless of proximity to the lecture theatre.
Security became a huge headache for the students as they were robbed en-route to the lecture theatres
Moving forward
The official ban letter from the Vice Chancellor and the academic board will be distributed and the full effect of the ban is expected to take place from Monday 29th January.
Students were pleased to hear that the SRC has been successful in their petition and hopefully, this ban will stay.
